Last week Lt Governor, Burt Jones announced a priority for the 2025 Legislative Session, “Georgia needs its own local version of DOGE” (Department of Government Efficiency) in Georgia, that has focused on cutting needless spending at the state level.  The Lt. Governor’s legislation is referred to as the “Red Tape Rollback Act of 2025“.

“Last year, we made positive changes to combat burdensome and costly regulations on behalf of workers and business owners all over Georgia,” said Lt. Governor Burt Jones.

“As a business owner, continuing our efforts to promote deregulation and free our businesses from harmful government red tape will continue to be a priority. Our state initiative complements DOGE, President Donald Trump’s plan to create efficiency, while paring down unnecessary spending and eliminating bureaucratic red tape at the federal level. I look forward to Georgia leading the way and joining President Trump in reducing the size and scope of government, while promoting the growth of businesses across our state.”

Senate Bill 28 (aka the “Red Tape Rollback Act of 2025 ) was introduced in the Georgia State Senate on 1/27/2025 and was assigned to the Economic Development and Tourism senate committee.

The bill currently has 14 senate sponsors with John Albers (republican) representing the Northeast portion of Cobb County in Georgia State Senate.

The current version of SB 28, requires Georgia governmental agencies to review new and existing regulations at least every four years.  On their website, Americans for Prosperity (AFP), a conservative watchdog group, loudly praises the efforts to encourage local business and job growth.  According to their website, the Georgia Affiliate of AFP has produced a video, that will use a 5 figure budget to explain their stance on government efficiency on ads running around the Georgia Capitol.

Senator Greg Dolezal, a sponsor of the bill posted on Facebook, “It’s time to roll back the administrative state and burdensome regulation that makes it hard for job creators to efficiently and quickly create opportunity for Georgia”.  Local Cobb County Republican leadership applauded the bill, saying, ‘We really do need to rein in the government overreach into the private sector”.

The “Red Tape Rollback Act of 2025” represents a bold step toward streamlining government and fostering a more business-friendly environment in Georgia. By requiring regular reviews of regulations and aligning with national efforts to reduce bureaucratic overreach, the bill demonstrates a strong commitment to supporting job creators, entrepreneurs, and hardworking Georgians.

Lt. Governor Burt Jones and the bill’s sponsors have made it clear that cutting red tape isn’t just about saving money—it’s about unleashing the potential of local businesses and ensuring the state remains a leader in economic growth.

As this legislation progresses through the General Assembly, it signals that Georgia is serious about prioritizing freedom, efficiency, and prosperity for all citizens.
