Dec. 17

  • The Strand Theatre will have Holiday Movies at The Strand: It’s A Wonderful Life (1946), rated PG, at 11 a.m., 2:30, 6 and 9:15 p.m. on Dec. 17. In this holiday classic, an angel (Henry Travers) helps a compassionate but despairingly frustrated businessman (James Stewart) by showing what life would have been like if he never existed.   • The Battery Atlanta will have a performance by the Allatoona Jazz Band at 6 p.m. on Dec. 17. The hour-long live performances will feature holiday classics played by the Allatoona High School Jazz Band at the Georgia Power Pavilion Stage.

Dec. 18

  • Horned Owl Brewing, 2765 South Main Street in Kennesaw, will have Home Alone Trivia Night from 7 to 9 p.m. on Dec. 18. Participants can test their knowledge of Kevin McCallister’s tricks, traps and everything from the class Christmas movies.   • Join Acworth for its annual Light Up Main Christmas Golf Cart Parade at 6 p.m. on Dec. 18. Participation is free, but registration is required to join the parade line-up. Participants can bust out the garland, lights and tinsel to make their golf cart as festive as it can get. The parade has a downtown route passing through neighborhoods. Visit visitacworth.com.

Dec. 20

  • Avenue East Cobb will have every Friday at 5 or 6 p.m. through Dec. 20 the opportunity for photos and visit with Santa. Participants can climb aboard the Avenue Express on Wednesday-Saturday from 2 to 6 p.m. from Dec. 18-21 to join Santa for a magical train ride or hear holiday stories read by Santa on Thursdays from 4 to 6:45 p.m. through Dec. 19 at Barnes & Noble.   • The Marietta Performing Arts Center, 1171 Whitlock Avenue NW in Marietta, will have Christmas Back Home from 7 to 9 p.m. on Dec. 20. Presented by Bercher Homes, this concert will return for an 8th year. Participants can enjoy a medley of classic Christmas hits with a unique twist and original songs. Visit christmasbackhome.com.
  • Ward Recreation Center, 4845 Dallas Highway in Powder Springs, invites the community to kick off the holiday season at their annual Christmas Light Scavenger Hunt, now with a new addition: Ward-erland, on Dec. 20. This year, the festivities will feature a petting zoo, photos with Santa and holiday crafts. Tickets for Ward-erland are $5 per person. Families can enjoy the seasonal activities before or after embarking on the scavenger hunt. Participants can collect their free Christmas Lights Scavenger Hunt list at the center.   • The Sewell Mill Library & Cultural Center, 2051 Lower Roswell Road in Marietta, will have a Glass Blown Ornaments Workshop at 10 a.m., 1 and 4 p.m. Dec. 20-21. Participants can join Netflix’s Blown Away contestant Arthur Wilson for this specialty workshop where they can create a hand blown glass ornament for the holiday season. Participants will learn the fundamentals of glassblowing and receive hands-on experience as one forms their glass. Participants will take turns as they use the furnace and equipment. Dec. 21

  • The Marietta History Center, 1 Depot Street in Marietta, will have their monthly Pop-In event from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Dec. 21. Pop-Ins are free events held the third Saturday of every month and offer an opportunity for children and their families to engage with the museum through themed activities and crafts. This month, the focus is on holiday themes. There will be a book reading from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. with local author Kelly Young-Silverman on her book “Hot Boiled Peanuts,” from noon to 2 p.m. Bach 2 Rock Music School will perform in Atherton Square and starting at 10 a.m. the Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta and the non-profit organization The Basics of Cobb County will have information tables.   • Participants can enjoy a special tour from 3 to 5:30 p.m. on Dec. 21 of Hyde Farm Park, 721 Hyde Road in Marietta. The focus will be on what life was like for pioneer farmers at the end of the year and how nature prepares to welcome winter. Activities will include a Hyde history tour, nature walk, candle making, pioneer toys and chores, s’mores over a fire and storytelling. Register at https://tinyurl.com/3mj2wvk8.
  • Home for the Holidays is a lively, festive performance celebrating the magic of the Christmas season and featuring a wide array of performers from the community. Shows are Dec. 21-22 at the Jennie T. Anderson Theatre, 548 South Marietta Parkway in Marietta. Visit https://tinyurl.com/588eetrx.
  • The Sewell Mill Library & Cultural Center will have a Winter Festival for all ages from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Dec. 21. Participants can shop the art market for last-minute gifts, take photos with Cobb PARKS mascot Parker dressed as Santa, participate in seasonally-themed art workshops and enjoy live holiday performances. Dec. 23

  • The Strand Theatre will have Strand Ole Opry: A Country Christmas at 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 23. Following in the footsteps of great Southern tradition, Opry’s back porch style sing-along features a live country bluegrass band, local singers and storytelling.   • The Art Place – Mountain View, 3330 Sandy Plains Road in Marietta, will have the 2024 Holiday Cabaret from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Dec. 23. Performers of all ages and types will be performing holiday pieces throughout the evening. At intermission, participants are encouraged to check out the silent auction where 50% of proceeds will go to the Best Friends Animal Society. Dec. 30

  • The city of Acworth will have their 12th Annual Menorah Lighting Ceremony at Doyal Hill Park on Dec. 30. Rabbi Zalman Charytan from the Chabad Jewish Center will officiate the lighting with Mayor Tommy Allegood.
