On Saturday, August 3, the Cobb County Board of Elections hosted a retreat at Cobb County’s Safety Village wherein, among other things slated on the agenda, the members were to hear the voter roll challenges brought forth by Eugene Williams.
As we’ve reported before, Williams has been a pioneer in advocating for the cleanup of voter rolls in Cobb County to ensure that elections are safe and secure from any possible fraud. As he notes during his time to speak to the board on Saturday, Williams found 2,472 names that needed to be cleared from the Cobb County voter roll. These people, whom Williams notes as being normal Americans who simply moved, no longer call the county home and therefore should be removed from the rolls. These same people are all registered to vote in other states and, to what this reporter concludes, could potentially vote twice in an election.
This is the crux of the voter roll cleanup argument and yet Cobb County’s Board of Elections refuses to take the concerns of its citizens seriously. In fact, after filing the challenges, the board told Williams they would only consider 106 of the names out of the initial 2,472.

Something to note to our readers, since this may not be understood by all, is that the state of Georgia is very clear on this issue as noted in Georgia’s Code 21 2-228, which states:
The board of registrars of each county or municipality shall have the right and shall be charged with the duty of examining from time to time the qualifications of each elector of the county or municipality whose name is entered upon the list of electors and shall not be limited or estopped by any action previously taken.
“No one would have to file a challenge in the state of Georgia if you would just do what you’re mandated to do and look into these records,” Williams stated; and he is absolutely correct.
It makes me wonder if the Cobb County Board of Elections is corrupt or simply incompetent. If the former, then the State Board of Elections should open an inquiry into their blatant dereliction of duty, and if the latter then they all need to be fired and replaced with members who understand the job requirements.
And the job of local Board of Elections gets even clearer after the passing of Georgia Senate Bill 189, which says that if someone registers to vote in another state they effectively forfeit their right to vote in the state of Georgia. So why is Cobb County refusing to take voter challenges seriously?
During the discussion on the challenges, Williams was asked about the data in the spreadsheet he provided. With Williams was a young man with a laptop sitting at a nearby table who came specifically to help answer any questions regarding the spreadsheet. When this man attempted to clear up the misunderstanding, Chairwoman Tori Silas immediately silenced him and said due to “no public comment” he wasn’t allowed to speak. So, she forced Williams to confer quietly versus having the data question answered immediately for the sake of time.
Corrupt or incompetent? It’s hard to answer that question, but considering that after all the data provided, explanation as to why the names should be removed and Eugene Williams offering to help in the process of cleaning the voter rolls the board voted to deny all the challenges due to the challenger “not meeting the burden of proof” with Debbie Fisher being the only hold out.
After the vote, the meeting was adjourned early due to an “emergency” of the Chairwoman.
When speaking to the Cobb Voice, Williams said “I thought [the board] did everything they could to not remove anyone. Pretty much typical for them over the years,”.
Cobb County’s board of elections should be immediately investigated for refusing to do the job they have been tasked to do.
