Keeping Score in Cobb Campaigns: Cobb’s School Board Races

HIgh School Scoreboard
Brad-Wheeler

Brad Wheeler’s Campaign for Cobb School Board announced that Joy Doss will now chair the Leadership Committee for Wheeler’s re-election. Doss, a West Cobb resident and honored graduate of UGA and FSU, is a lawyer and partner at The Doss Firm, LLC.  Well known for her dedication to children and education, Doss was named the 2024 West Cobb Citizen of the Year.

The Cobb Voice Handicapper—The Wheeler Campaign hit a solid triple with this announcement. This re-election campaign seems to have been picking up some valuable members in recent weeks.

The Andrew Cole Campaign for the Cobb School Board (post 7) recently held a well-attended meet-and-greet at the North Cobb Regional Library on July 27th with Candidate Vickie Benson (Post 1) and others.  According to his Facebook posts, Cole laid out his views for the future of Cobb County Schools, which includes an accessible and engaging campaign.

The Cobb Voice Handicapper—The Cole campaign hit a solid double with this meet-and-greet, showing a level of needed support. He misses a triple due to the difficulty of ascertaining who attended the event due to Cole’s presence and who showed up there for Becky Saylor, Tre’ Hutchins, Vickie Benson, or others. This is still a game that is 100% in play. Stay tuned.

Dr. Vickie Benson for Cobb School Board (Post 1) has recently demonstrated some signs of life in her campaign after an agonizing slow start. Her campaign footprints seemed almost non-existent until her recent meet-and-greet held in conjunction with Andrew Cole and others inside her post.

The Cobb Voice Handicapper – Vickie Benson’s recent epiphany that she is the Democratic candidate for the Cobb School Board has already put her behind the game and only hit a single. In contrast, her campaign has shown virtually no signs of life until recently. This candidate is down by a couple of runs but quite capable of getting back in the game with some effort.

Laura Judge, Candidate for Cobb School Board Post 4, continues to have a very active social media presence in her race. Not one to be afraid to wade into many issues and voice her opinions, even when they may be somewhat controversial, Laura Judge is a dedicated campaigner. Her recent picture alongside President Biden and Vice President Harris on her Facebook Page is typical of the attention she brings to her Campaign. This Campaign has a network of dedicated volunteers from many camps.

Cobb Voice Handicapper – This Campaign is one to keep an eye on, with a strong start in the first 3 innings of this matchup of first-time candidates.  It’s drawing attention from Cobb Democrats as a race with potential, and the possibility of a win is not far-fetched.

John Cristadoro, running to replace the current incumbent David Banks, is facing Laura Judge in his first election.  Cristadoro is not your typical Republican candidate, but he is quickly learning the ropes.  His messages are more direct in public comments at school board meetings, setting him apart from the rest. The game is still in play, and the party that celebrates on November 5th will have a prized win.

Cobb Voice Handicapper Cristadoro, a local middle school coach, knows how to lead his team and seems focused.  The Campaign has already had an impressive pre-game showing, with a large amount of campaign funds showing up in the coffers and developing a list of who’s who list of East Cobb endorsing his team; we continue to watch this one from the stands as this Cristadoro demonstrates a generational shift in the GOP bench, also seen in Trump’s pick of Senator J.D. Vance for his V.P selection.
